[...] Not 25 Vacations Strung Together: Our Top 6 Goals for the Trip By Tom Five months ago Anne and I talked about two non-travel posts that would be a little deeper and more introspective than our normal posts. The first went up when we got to China, so it is only appropriate I get the second one up in India. China and India have been the two biggest unknowns for us. They were the most intimidating and probably caused us to think the most about why we were taking this trip. There is nothing like a little fear to stir up some deep musings. [...]

Papa A,
I have not had time to read many of the posts on the site but this one caught my eye. This one hit close to home for me. I recently got into wreck with the new Mustang that I got(yes, I finally got a car!). Fortunately it was nothing serious, but a couple feet to the left or right and it would have been a tragedy. The time following the accident forced me to rethink many things in my life, and its like you said, life is to short and fragile. So I agree with you in regards to your post and philosohpy. This is a great post!

Hi Tom,
Thank you for your lovely post. As I get older (now 45) I am struck with how fragile and transitory this life is. I've lost so many friends recently, yet I recall my grandmother who at 92 had outlived almost all of hers. The longer we live, the more we have to let go. Every moment is a blessing, isn't it? How wonderful that you chose to make this year one of adventure and service with your family. It is a gift that your children will cherish.

Wise beyond your years.
I think many of us know that family should be our first priority, but to live this principle takes sacrifice, discipline, patience and courage.
Thanks for sharing personal insights and life lessons.
Love you all and happy things are going well,
Lorelie

Tom, I LOVED this post. Your words inspired me and helped me gain a better perspective on my own life and decisions. You and Anne give the phrase "putting family first" a whole new meaning! Thanks for sharing such great insight.
